Ramsbottom - first entry

After a couple of alphas over at gamedev.net, it was time for Ramsbottom to get itchy!

This was a short game development challenge (just over a month, on and off) for me to learn Unity. The fundamental gameplay I had working in the first couple of weeks, and I've been gradually improving it since. I wasn't expecting to be able to do much in the timescale but I have been pleasantly surprised by how much has been possible, and the game is quite fun to play even on a tablet when you are out and about.

Much of the artwork is free assets from the asset store, some great ground textures from spiral graphics, and I made the towers and assorted stuff in blender. All is credited within the game. Although I usually create my own assets, it was overkill for a short challenge.

Being a longtime c++ / opengl / directx developer I did find learning c# and unity somewhat frustrating but despite this it was good for rapid development, and made multi-platform and compatibility testing *far* easier. Will I use unity again? Probably for some more small games, although I may try out unreal or another rapid development engine.

The whole game was developed on linux, and well done to unity for providing a linux version. I didn't have debugging working so had to debug manually, but even so it was possible to progress (as long as I kept things simple).
